Report from Fleetwood United Reformed Church magazine following our concert on June 26th 2010.
We were promised an evening of music and celebration to inspire and entertain when the LAKES GOSPEL CHOIR was in concert. And we got a treat far beyond people’s expectations.
The church, including the gallery was crowded and the temperature rose – that’s an understatement! – As the choir, under its’ musical director Robin Perris provided a programme of music and song which explored the Christian life.
It was a glorious summer evening, the end of a beautiful sultry summers day. The choir had arrived on a coach and some welcome refreshments had revived them from their long journey from the Lakes.
Most appropriately, and for those who know the Fleetwood church will have seen it before, the strong sunlight of a setting sun through the west facing window provided the choir members with plenty of heat and light. As they sang out in such sweltering temperatures, the message they brought was delivered with power and enthusiasm.
The evening opened with the choir’s Under – 13’s and ‘O happy day’. The adult choir filled the staging to sing as a chorus and as accompaniment to the soloists. The choir was backed by a sophisticated sound system that they have bought through fund raising. It was also the first time the Lakes Gospel Choir had used their new Risers, which they are currently fund raising to purchase.
The whole evening would not have been quite the success it was without the wholehearted support of members of the church family. From providing refreshments, to the excellent stewarding, and clearing of the church and giving a hand packing up the staging at the end of the night (almost at midnight), So very grateful thanks. And thanks to each and every one who sold tickets and attended.
Meanwhile, in a private garden in the housing estate surrounding the church, locals sitting in the evening sun were also enjoying our concert. They hadn’t known it was taking place, but appreciated the music so much, they decided to email the website to tell us. So thank you for your response!
Altogether, it was a fantastic evening; hard work, melting heat, lots of organization, but worth it! Thank you to all.
